For a parent or carer, noticing that your child is not as happy and balanced as they should be can be very difficult. You may know that they are going through something difficult or challenging, or that they have had a difficult experience which has impacted negatively on their wellbeing. Perhaps they are having problems at school, or with friends or family. Putting support in place for your child as early as possible can make a big difference to their future, before one problem leads to another, making things harder.
Play therapy can help a child make sense of their feelings, thoughts and experiences, through building a therapeutic relationship with their play therapist, and having special time each week just for them, where your child can choose what they do with very few restrictions, which creates an environment where they can feel completely free to express themselves and process necessary things.
As your child’s play therapist, I will keep all information about your child and their sessions confidential, unless there is a safeguarding issue, in which case necessary procedures would be followed. I will arrange meetings with you before the start of therapy to gain as much background information as possible, after about 8 sessions to review how your child is doing, and once therapy has ended.
